Upcoming Event - Justice Reform Happy Hour, July 20, 2017 in Alexandria

Please join us for a Justice Reform Happy Hour on July 20, 2017 from 5-7pm at Fireflies in Alexandria, VA (1501 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria, VA, 22301). Featured guests -- including Bonnie Hoffman of NACDL, Senators Adam Ebbin and George Barker, and others -- will be joining to enlighten us about the legislative process in Virginia and current obstacles to reform efforts, particularly with respect to discovery rules, the larceny threshold and indigent defense funding.

This a non-partisan event Justice Forward Virginia (www.justiceforwardva.com) and the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. It is organized by Brad Haywood, Chris Leibig, Katy Batey and Phoenix Harris. Another "planning group" (consisting of Andy Elders, Brad Lindsay, Shawn Stout, James Abrenio, Bryan Kennedy and Lindsey Lawson-Battaglia) is planning a similar Justice Forward event for the month of August in Fairfax. 

As newcomers to justice reform organizing, our goals for these events are to build support and enthusiasm among reform advocates and others passionate about the issues, and develop ideas for specific advocacy efforts going forward. From there we hope to build and sustain an active, diverse grassroots campaign for a more fair criminal justice system in the Commonwealth.
