Annual Justice Reform "Prep Rally" - 2023

The Virginia General Assembly General Session is upon us. And in the annual tradition, Justice Forward Virginia is hosting its Justice Reform “Prep Rally”—to educate and mobilize advocates for action. We’re excited to have Delegate Jay Jones and Senator Jennifer Boysko join our policy experts, Rob Poggenklass and Brad Haywood on Facebook LIVE–Wednesday, January 18th at 8:00 pm.

If we learned anything from the 2022 session, it’s that a slim Democratic majority in the Senate is all that stands in the way of reversing the progress Virginia made on criminal justice reform since 2020. Although we made tremendous strides, we have so much more work to do. But we cannot achieve progress when some legislators want to return to the regressive policies of the past. We must work diligently in 2023 to protect the progress we’ve made. 

Lawmakers in the Virginia House of Delegates and Virginia Senate need to hear from their constituents. Our virtual “Prep Rally” will get you informed about the progress we must protect and assist advocates to feel more confident in lobbying to protect evidence-informed criminal justice reforms. We’ve seen bold action from the General Assembly when people show them that they care, join us at the event, and invite your friends and family. Let’s continue to advance the cause of racial justice and put an end to barbaric practices in our criminal legal system.
