Get Informed Pt. IV: Assault on Law Enforcement and Police in Schools - July 28, 2020
Cops in Schools and Assault on Law Enforcement Statute
Tuesday, July 28, 2020
6:30-8pm
Are you wondering why there's a call to get police out of schools? Have you heard about Virginia's Assault on Law Enforcement statute, and why it's perhaps the most unjust mandatory minimum on the books?
On July 28, join Professor Julie McConnell and public defenders Brad Lindsay and Ashley Shapiro for an expert panel on why school resource officers are so problematic, and why Virginia's assault on police statute is much more controversial than the name would imply. This is the fourth installment in Justice Forward's "Get Informed About Police Reform" explainer series, which is intended to help non-lawyers and other laypeople better understand what meaningful police reform looks like in Virginia, and what the General Assembly ought to try to accomplish during the special session in August.
